Develop New Rhino Plug-ins

Hamamatsu, Japan Roland DG Corporation has teamed up with Robert McNeel & Associates to develop three software plug-ins that make it faster and easier to design and manufacture a wide range of products. Applications include rendering, animation, drafting, engineering, analysis and manufacturing.

"These plug-ins create seamless integration between Rhino surface modeling software and Roland MODELA Player 4 CAM software," said K. Sogo, Roland 3D Product Manager. "This co-development by Roland and Robert McNeel & Associates provides customers a convenient workflow for both creating 3D designs and milling them on a Roland SRP device."

Roland developed the PICZA Direct Control Plug-in and the PIX File Import Plug-in. PICZA Direct Control Plug-in allows customers to drive Roland's LPX Laser Scanners and PIX Contact Scanners directly from inside Rhino 3.0. The new PIX File Import Plug-in lets customers import PIX scanned data files and edit them with Rhino.

Robert McNeel & Associates developed the MODELA Player 4 CAM Software Plug-in and is now including it with every copy of Rhino 3.0. The plug-in automatically launches MODELA Player 4 from inside Rhino, enabling industrial and mechanical designers to quickly create prototypes with any Roland SRP milling device.

MODELA Player 4 (included with all Roland milling devices) features proportional 3D scaling, automatic tool path generation, automatic tool changing and 4-axis milling when used with a Rotary Axis Unit.

Rhino 3.0 can create, edit, analyze, and translate NURBS curves, surfaces, and solids in Windows. There are no limits to complexity, degree, or size. Rhino also supports polygon meshes and point clouds.
