Environmental Activities
Eco-Labels and Environmentally Conscious Products
II.Environment-Conscious Product Design Guide
1. System Description
a. There are four major classifications and
ten intermediate classifications that comprise Roland DG's
environmental standards. These are detailed in the company's
Environmental (LCA) Assessment Report.
When assessing the
environmental aspects of a product, Roland completes a
comparison between the
new product and previous versions. In
order to be certified as an Environment-Conscious Product
and
display Roland's eco-label, a product must meet the
criteria established for seven intermediate classifications
or more and two major classifications or more.
b. This certification is communicated to the
customer through environmental labels that are displayed
directly on the certified products as well as in their
brochures. The product's environmental impact data is
posted on rolanddg.com.
2. Roland's Environmental Impact and Environmentally Conscious initiatives are
focused on achieving the following goals:
a. Prevent global warming
- Lower power consumption
Reduce standby electric power
and rated electric power
Track CO2 emissions
b. Recycling resources – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Reduce
Reduce the mass and volume of products and packaging, extend product
life cycles, and reduce noise
- Reuse
Use reusable parts and units
- Recycle
Include labels that identify all the materials used in plastic parts,
engineer products for easier disassembly, and collect and recycle supplies
- Engineer products for durability and longevity
Use flame-retardant materials, lower the maintenance
requirements, and provide maintenance support
c. Increase environmental awareness
- Support Roland's green procurement
standards (GL), the RoHS Directives, and the
Waste Electrical
and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive
- Limit use of chemicals and other materials
that impact the environment
Prohibit use of hexavalent chromium and cadmium
d. Disclosure of information (such as MSDS)
- Disclose environmental information on
products and supplies
Include labels in product brochures, in manuals and on the Internet
- Disclose information regarding the
handling of products and supplies after use
Outline the procedures for
recycling and disposal
3. Usage Standards for Displaying Eco-Labels
a. In the initial stages of product design,
the product's specific environmentally-conscious attributes
and
requirements are established according to Roland DG's
environmental standards. This information is
entered into
the Environmental (LCA) Assessment Report and implemented
throughout the development
and design processes of the
environment-conscious product.
b. Regulation compliance
Comply with the existing regulations
c. Environmentally conscious compliance data
This data is used to verify that a product
complies with the required standards. The next step is a
review of
the product's Environmental Assessment Report by
the New Product Assessment Committee. After the
product is authorized, it is certified, registered and given the
Eco-label.
d. Disclose the environmental impact data
Environmental impact data of the certified
product is disclosed or provided.
